Geological Tour Of Oman

Oman is considered one of the unique geological spots in the world. Since it has great variations in landscape such as wide plains, towering mountains, deep valleys, and wonderful caves. The special geographical location in Oman is not by incident since it is formed due to the movement of plate tectonics through millions of years. Oman passed through different periods.Oman’s rocks record spans about 825 million years and it includes at least three different period of times when the country was covered totally by ice. Day 01 – Arrival in Muscat

Arrival at Muscat International airport. Meet & greet by our representative in the arrival hall and thereafter transfer to the hotel.

Day 02 – Muscat

At the beginning of your unique trip, you will discover the geology of the Muscat area starting from the beautiful city of Mutrah. By a short hike there, you will have a close look at the Mantle rocks, and you will examine the dunite and harzburgite rocks. After that, you will go to the “Mother of all outcrops”. From this site, you can see the major super sequences of Oman’s mountains and you will understand the tectonic evolution history of Oman. Moving on in our journey, you will see the great lagoons and the mangrove trees in Bander Al Khairan Area. Then, our guide will take you to the eclogite outcrop in A’Sifah Beach and you will know more about the “Exhumation” theory. The last stop will be in Wadi al Maih which has macro-scale tectonic structures. Overnight will be in Muscat.

Day 03 – Muscat – Wadi Abyadh – Al Thawarah – Wekan

Your second day in this geological trip will be in Al Batinah South Governorate. Starting from the unique Moho Line in Wadi Al Abyadh to the small White Pools which is the reason for naming the
Wadi by this name. After that, you will move to Al Thawarah Spring and you will have a quick tour in Nakhal Fort (Currently closed for renovation). Your last stop will be in Waken Mountain village and you will spend the night in the Sama Wekan Heritage home.

Day 04 – Wekan – Wadi Bani Kharous – Rustaq – Wadi Bani Awf – Al Hamra – Misfat Al Abriyyin

Your 4th day will start from Wekan Village heading to Wadi Bani Kharous which is one of the best places to understand Oman’s geology. You will be driving through geological time. After that, you will go to see one of the old Omani capitals and you will visit Al Rustaq Fort and Al Kasfah Hot Spring. Then, you will visit one of the old villages in Al Rustaq and you will know more about the Omani culture during your visit to Qasra Museum. After lunch break, you begin your Off-road journey to Wadi Bani Auf. From there you will start to ascend mountains via Bilad al Seyt and Sharafat al Al amain to reach Al Hamra. Later proceed to Misfat al Abreyin for overnight stay.

Day 05 – Misfat Al Abriyyin – Jebel Shams – Al Ain – Jabal Misht – Nizwa

Today, you will visit the Grand Canyon of Arabia and you will enjoy the view of the Hajar Super group’s formations from 2900 meters above the sea level. From Jabal Shams you will go to Sint Village to see the Sint Paleo-Lagoon. After that, you will move to Al Ain Tombs which go back to the 3rd Millennium in front of the beautiful Jabal Misht. At the end of the day, you will return to Nizwa to spend your night

Day 06 – Nizwa – Jabal Akhdar

Your day will start with a journey to Nizwa Souq and the old city. Also, you will visit Nizwa Fort to know more about the Omani history and culture. After that, you will go to Jabal Akhdar to have an adventure in Amer Cave. You will spend your night in Sama hotel.

Day 07 – Jabal Akhdar – A Tayeen Village – Ibra – Wahiba

From Jabal Akhdar proceed to A’Tayeen village. You will have a short hike to Q’abit Spring. The hiking will be along the mantle rocks until you reach the Natural White Pools which were formed by the precipitation of Travertine mineral. Then, from there you will visit a very nice Souq in Ibra City. After that, you will move to Wahiba Sand Dunes to spend your night there.

Day 08 – Wahiba – Tahwan – Ras Al Hadd

After a quiet night on the sand dunes, you will complete your journey in A’Sharqiyah Governorate (Eastern). You will visit the granitic basement rocks. Then, you will go along the coastal road until you reach Ras Al Had which is the most eastern point in Oman. This place is known as a place where you can see the nesting habits of green turtles.

Day 09 – Ras Al Had – Sur – Wadi Shab – Bimmah Sinkhole – Muscat

On your way to Muscat, passing through the road along Oman’s coastline you will see the deep marines’sediments (Radiolarian Chert). Also, you will see the Amethyst and the camerolaite evidence in Oman. Passing by Sur City and heading toward the Ancient City of Qalhat, you will know the different stories about this city and the geological effect on it. After that, you will enjoy swimming in the crystal water of wadi Shab in the next stop. The last stop will be in Bimmah Sinkhole Park to know the way it is formed and the various myths spread about it.
